Tensions are being reduced in many regions that once were centers of conflict and the time has come to extend this development to the Middle East, Kenneth Keating, U.S. Ambassador to Israel, said here at a reception at the Tel Aviv Museum given by the Israel-American Society in honor of the new Ambassador. Foreign Minister Abba Eban, who attended the event Thursday night, said that the close ties between Israel and the United States is the major “consolidating factor in the Middle East.” He said the U.S. respected the diversity and freedom of the Middle East.
Earlier in the day, Keating called on Finance Minister Pinhas Sapir for their first meeting. The two discussed the Israel-America balance of payments, questions of search of oil here, and the problems facing Israel in connection with the European Common Market.
