Establishment of the John F. Kennedy Chair in American Civilization at Bar IIan University, was announced today in ceremonies on the University campus by Dr. Joseph H. Lookstein, acting president of the American-sponsored university.
Dr. Lookstein said that the university intended to invite, as occupants of the new Chair, “the foremost academic personalities of the United States, of all faiths and colors.” He said in this way, American men of letters, philosophers, social and political scientists, state men and teachers would expound at the university “the teachings, experiences and contributions of the American way of life.”
Walworth Barbour, the American Ambassador to Israel, spoke at the ceremony and presented the new American flag to the university. Guests included members of the American Embassy, the Israel Foreign Office, the Israel-American Friendship League and others.
