Rabbi Jacob J. Weinstein, national chairman of the National Committee for Labor Israel, was appointed today by President John F. Kennedy as a member of the Committee on Equal Employment Opportunity. The 15-member committee, which is headed by Vice President Lyndon B. Johnson, is charged by the President with ending racial and religious discrimination in Governmental employment and in companies doing business with the Government.
Rabbi Weinstein is the spiritual leader of the KAM Temple in Chicago, the oldest Reform congregation in the Middle West. During the Second World War he served as chairman of the Labor Board panels and later lectured on labor problems at the University of Chicago. He is a past president of the Chicago Rabbinical Association, and has been national chairman of the National Committee for Labor Israel since 1959.
