The work of upbuilding in Palestine will not be suspended for one minute but will continue under all conditions despite all difficulties, declared an appeal sent out today by Dr. Arthur Hantke and Leib Yaffe, members of the board of directors of the Keren Hayesod, the financial instrument of the Jewish Agency, to all committees and workers of the Keren Hayesod throughout the world.
The appeal said “a difficult hour is upon us. The Jewish people of Palestine and of the Galuth (outside of Palestine) are shaken to their very depths and indignant at the edict suspending immigration which threatens the vital nerve of the movement. The Jewish people the world over have voiced their protest and demands but this is not enough.
“The whole world must know that not for a moment shall we suspend the work of upbuilding in Palestine but we will continue despite all conditions and all difficulties. Our strength lies in our selves, in our work. It is more than ever incumbent upon ourselves to show the world what Palestine means to our people. Not for one moment will our work be interrupted but it will be carried on with greater devotion and redoubled energy.
“The increased activities of the Keren Hayesod will not merely widen its scope but convince the world and the Jewish people that it must not give way. No power on earth can destroy its hope and its aspirations. It is impossible to arrest the work of the restoration of the land to its destiny. Let everyone be at his post ready to do his work. Let our deeds lend strength to our protest. Our grief will pass but the Keren Hayesod which is financing immigration and settlement must be prepared for action.”
