Six Hundred of the most prominent German Jews, among them Otto Warburg, gathered at the B’nai B’rith house here to attend a banquet given by the Keren Hayesod for Dr. Kurt Blumenfeld, acting chairman and member of the presidium of the fund, who is celebrating his fiftieth birthday.
The contributions made to the Palestine movement by Dr. Blumenfeld, who is an active Zionist, were stressed by Dr. Leo Baeck, also a member of the Keren Hayesod executive, who presided at the dinner. Dr. Baeck wished Blumenfeld new successes outside Germany.
Dr. Blumenfeld, replying to Dr. Baeck, revealed some of the difficulties he encountered when the German Keren Hayesod organization was being formed fourteen years ago, when there was a great deal of opposition to the fund on the part of the assimilationists.
