A “Ketubbah” certificate of marriage, or other documents relating to civil status written in the Hebrew language, is not valid under the laws of the Province of Quebec, it was decided in a judgment of Justice Bruinau in Superior Court here.
In consequence the Judge refused to adjudicate either in dismissing or accepting a motion to annual the marriage of Paul Greenberg to Dame K. Peterson, the certificate of which was written in Hebrew. He declared that judgment would be suspended until such time as the Quebec Legislature, the only competent authority in the Province in matters of civil status under the British North American Act. should have settled the point raised by the case.
