Peaceful cooperation between Jews and Arabs in the Jerusalem municipality was promised today by Dr. Hussein Khalidi, the Arab mayor, at a luncheon given by the Palestinian government for the members of the municipal government.
“There are no differences whatsoever between Jews and non-Jews in the council with regard to the policy of the municipality,” Dr. Khalidi said. “We all work for one purpose, for the welfare of the city.”
Sir Arthur Wauchope, the High Commissioner of Palestine, in his speech at the luncheon, expressed appreciation of Dr. Khalidi’s stand and promised readiness to assist the municipality in its activities.
The High Commissioner today ordered the release of the hunger strikers in the Bethlehem jail on bail of $500 each.
