King Hussein of Jordan said here in an interview with the newspaper Le Monde that he is ready to conclude a “total peace” with Israel and that Jordan was prepared to accept “minor frontier adjustments on the basis of reciprocity.” But he added in the interview published last Friday that he would reject any Israeli annexation of Jordanian territory, including the old city. If, however, Israel recognized Jordan’s “inalienable rights of sovereignty” over the old city, “we could imagine and discuss a formula which would make Jerusalem a city of peace and cooperation among the three monotheistic religions.” Before a settlement is reached in the Mideast, Hussein said he favored Israel Defense Minister Moshe Dayan’s proposal of open bridges between Israel and Jordan.
