King Victor Emanuel today received Dr. Luciano Morpurgo and Prof. Roberto Almagio of the University of Rome, who presented His Majesty with a copy of a new book called “Palestina,” the text of which is by Professor Almagio and the 250 photographs by Dr. Morpurgo. The King expressed his thanks for the gift and his admiration of the photos.
The reception of the two Jewish scholars by King Victor Emanuel recalled the fact that in 1903 Theodor Herzl, the founder of political Zionism, was also received by the King, who was most favorably impressed with Herzl. In 1927 Dr. Glass and Chief Rabbi Sacerdoti were received as representatives of Zionism and they offered the King some new Palestine coins in a Bezalel casket.
