Philip M. Klutznick, former international president of B’nai B’rith, told editors and publishers attending the 25th national convention here of the American Jewish Press Association that “the Jewish press is the only hope for reaching and educating vast numbers of American Jews who are today abysmally ignorant about their own community as well as Israel.” Mr. Klutznick urged the editors to be more “probing” and to speak out courageously on the problems affecting American Jewry. The Chicago Jewish leader warned that “ignorance of our present-day American Jewish community can destroy it even If we master all of our past history contained in the Bible.”
Adolph Rosenberg, editor and publisher of the Southern Israelite of Atlanta, Ga., was reelected president. James Wisch of the Texas Jewish Post; Jules D. Miller, Philadelphia Jewish Exponent, and Joseph J. Cummons, Los Angeles B’nai B’rith Messenger, were named vice-presidents; Albert W. Blum, Pittsburgh Jewish Chronicle, secretary; and Milton Firestone, Kansas City Jewish Chronicle, treasurer.
