Moshe Douek, young immigrant from Iraq, went on trial today charged with throwing a hand grenade into the Knesset last October and wounding five members of the Israeli Cabinet, including Premier David Ben Gurion. The trial is expected to last ten days.
Young Douek who is conducting his own defense, pleaded not guilty. After repeated urging by Justice M. Baker, presiding over the Jerusalem District Court, Douek agreed to accept counsel on a stand-by basis. He closely questioned the first witness, Knesset sergeant at arms M. Greenberg, who had seized him after the bomb was thrown from the visitors’ gallery. The trial will resume tomorrow.
