David Hacohen, Mapai member of the Knesset, Israel’s Parliament, today told the opening session of the Interparliamentary Conference here that Israel’s Jordan River irrigation project would in no way affect the interests and water needs of the neighboring Arab countries.
Mr. Hacohen, who heads Israel’s delegation to the conference, said that the important fact was that the waters of the Jordan River, which had been wasted for centuries, were now being used by all riparian countries for their development. He expressed confidence that Arab nationalism would ultimately acknowledge the fact that Israel has a right to her 8,000 square miles of land, and that peace would come for the benefit of Israel and her neighbors.
The Israeli delegate also recalled the heroic efforts of Denmark in helping the country’s Jewish population escape from Nazi occupation to Sweden in October 1943.
The Israeli delegation to the conference represents all parties in the Knesset.
