Jerusalem Mayor Teddy Kollek has written Police Minister Shlomo Hillel to protest the police handling of an East Jerusalem merchants’ strike last week. The daily paper. Davar said that Kollek protested against such police actions as large-scale arrests of strikers and marking closed stores with paint.
Davar quoted Kollek as saying that such-police actions “were contrary to official policy toward East Jerusalem Arabs” and could harm Israel politically.
