McDonald’s has announced plans to open three kosher restaurants by the end of the summer in Israel.
The fast-food chain already has 10 non-kosher franchises in the Jewish state.
Burger King, McDonald’s main rival, already has a kosher branch in Jerusalem.
A statement from McDonald’s said the three new restaurants would not serve dairy products and would not be open on Shabbat. “We are very pleased to be able to offer this new choice to our customers in Israel,” Omri Padan, McDonald’s Israeli licensee, said in a statement.
The first kosher franchise is expected to open by July in Rehovot. Two more are expected to open later in Mevasseret Yerushalayim, adjacent to Jerusalem, and Ra’anana.
Earlier this year, the company responded to the Passover observance of not eating leavened bread during the holiday by offering sandwiches on potato flour buns.
