Dr. Arthur J. Kraus, ousted City College instructor who is facing deportation to Poland, has been given until April 20 in which to get his passport extended, the Department of Labor said today.
The extension is to be considered by the Department of Labor and if he succeeds in getting it further consideration will be given to his plea for a stay of the deportation order, officials said.
Dr. Kraus, formerly an officer in the Polish army, went on a hunger strike while teaching philosophy in City College, as an expression of protest against Polish persecution of the Jews. He was dismissed from his post and is now suing the City of New York for pay which he claims is owed him.
