More than 50,000 Zionists, representing five different parties, voted in the elections for candidates to the World Zionist Congress Sunday, it was estimated yesterday by Dr. Samuel M. Schmidt, director of the Central Election Board.
This is two-and-a-half times larger than the number of votes cast in the elections to the last Zionist Congress two years ago.
Complete results of the elections throughout the country will not be made public before the end of the week, but returns received so far from fifty-five cities in twenty-two states indicate a sweeping majority for the Laborite ticket.
LABORITES GET 21,688
These fifty-five cities gave the Laborite ticket 21,688 votes as compared with 12,335 received by the joint ticket of the General Zionists and Hadassah. The Mizrachi ticket received 8,955 votes in these cities.
Returns from 200 smaller Jewish communities are still to be received in the General Election headquarters in New York.
In New York, the number of votes cast in fifty-five precincts was 10,966. Of this number the Laborites received 4,493 the Mizrachi, 3,512 and the General Zionists together with the Hadassah, 2,961.
