Senator Stephen M. Young, Ohio Democrat, called tonight for “an early implementation of President Kennedy’s promise to insist that the Arab states agree in good faith to negotiate a peace treaty with Israel.”
Speaking at the opening session of the 33rd biennial convention of the Labor Zionist Organization of America here, Senator Young also said the United States “should make it clear that we mean to stand by Israel’s right to use its own water” in its plans to irrigate the Negev with water taken from Lake Tiberias.
Other speakers at the opening session included Reuven Barkatt, secretary-general of the Mapai, and Dr. Marie Syrkin, editor of the Jewish Frontier. Pinchas Cruso, LZOA, president, presided.
