The Jewish National Worker’s Alliance, a labor Zionist order, today opened its national convention here with 400 delegates from 100 cities in the United States and Canada in attendance.
Meyer Brown, president of the organization, in his opening address, reviewed developments in American Jewish life and the role played by the American Zionist labor movement in these developments. He called for an intensified fight against isolationaism as well as Communism in the United States. He lauded Israel’s achievements and emphasized the need for Chalutzim.
Louis Segal, general secretary, denounced the American Council of Judaism, on one hand, and “the small group of Jewish Communists,” on the other, for their “destructive activities” in American Jewish life. He urged the delegates to combat both actively. Rabbi James Heller, president of the Labor Zionist Party of America and Canada, greeted the convention. He expressed the hope that the United States would not abandon its traditional friendship toward Israel.
