When asked in the House of Commons whether the restrictions on Jewish immigration to Palestine were due to the heavy influx of Transjordanian Arabs, Sir Philip Cunliffe-Lister, British Secretary of State for Colonies, replied that the number of Arabs entering Palestine from Transjordania was small. Rys Davies, Laborite who asked the question suggested restriction of Transjordanian immigration.
Sir Philip admitted that the Arabs are allowed to enter Palestine freely without being asked for passports, but declared that they are not able to settle there and work without registering under the Palestine immigration ordinance.
