Lack of confidence in H. C. Luke, Civil Secretary of the Palestine government, was implied by the Arab delegation in its interview with the High Commissioner on Wednesday. The delegation proposed that Major Mills, Assistant Chief Secretary, and Antonios, a Syrian, member of the Secretariat, should handle all complaints and petitions submitted by the Arab Executive for the High Commissioner, evidently not desiring Mr. Luke’s intervention.
The Arab paper “Felestin,” which is responsible for this report, asserts that the High Commission promised to consider permitting Mr. Drayton, Assistant Attorney General, to cooperate with Attorney General Norman Bentwich on all Arab cases.
The Arabs also protested against alleged corporal punishment of prisoners. The High Commissioner requested the delegation to issue a notice allaying excitement among the Arabs.
