Lack of Students, Financial Problems Force Only Jewish College in Turkey to Retrench

The only college maintained by Turkish Jewry has closed down its two senior classes because of a lack of students, it was revealed here today. It is considered likely that more courses will have to be abandoned within a year.

The financial difficulties facing the school and the inadequacy of its educational program are generally believed to be the chief reasons for the failure of Jewish students to attend it. Jewish students have been attending French and American schools after completing their secondary courses either in Jewish or public schools. The school was supported by the B’nai B’rith until 1928 when a government decree barred all such support from abroad.
