The Palestine motion picture, “Land of Promise,” which opened last night at the Astor Theatre, was hailed today by critics of metropolitan newspapers as an impressive and well-photographed document of the Jewish national home.
The New York Times says: “Rarely has the camera presented such magnificant portraiture, nor used it with more telling effect… Whether as a newsreel of the new Palestine, as a documentary film of historic and sociological importance or as pictorial entertainment, ‘The Land of Promise’ deserves being seen.” The Daily News calls the film a “compelling and dramatic portrait of the triumphant Jew.”
The American terms it a “fascinating film” and lauds its direction and photography. The New York Post calls it “informatory, noteworthy and stirring.” The World-Telegram sees in it “driving sincerity and purpose.”
