An appeal to Prime Minister Winston Churchill to “exercise compassion and mercy” in the case of Eliahu Hakim and Ephraim Ben Zuri, condemned murderers of Lord Moyne, was voiced yesterday in the Senate by Sen. William langer, North Dakota Republican. At the same, time Sen. Langer called on Mr. Churchill to immediately abrogate the present British policy in Palestine “which is directly responsible for the death of Lord Moyne.”
Criticizing the censorship which prevented publication of the assassins’ addresses explaining their motives, Sen. Langer stated:
“I wish to appeal to Mr. Churchill, the Prime Minister and leader of our great ally, not only to exercise compassion and mercy in this particular case, but to delay no longer the abrogation of the present British policy in Palestine which be himself so betterly and strongly condemned in 1939, when it was first announced by the late arch appeaser. Neville Chamberlain, and which is directly responsible for the tragio death of Lord Moyne, as it is directly responsible for the tragic death of hundres of thousands of innocent Hebrew men, women and children in Europe.”
