A statewide contest for an original three-act play is being conducted by the Galveston Section, Council of Jewish Women, which is offering a prize of $50 to the person submitting the best play before Sept. 1.
The play accepted will later be presented in Calveston by the council.
Rules concerning the contest provide that each play submitted must be a three-act play and must have a one stage setting; no period or costume play will be accepted Plays are to be submitted to the committee of Mrs. Harry H. Levy, 2610 ### Mrs. Max Levy. 1801 J. and Mrs. Herman Nussbaum, 1303 J. A special committee of judges will make the final selection.
The Mount Sinai Hospital received a gift of $25,100 in the will of Mrs. Elizabeth Ottelie Meyer, it has been disclosed.
A movement of a group of Elmira Democrats to conduct an active campaign for the nomination of Morris J. Gladke as the Democratic candidate for mayor of Elmira. N. Y. at the primary election in September was ### when Mr. Gladke definitely declined to permit the use of his name for that purpose.
Mr. Gladke, who is known as one of the most influential Jews in the Southern Tier of New York State is a member of the Board of Visitors of the New York State Reformatory, located in Elmira, by appointment of former Governor Alfred E. Smith.
