President Chaim Weizmann was reported here as having suffered a heart attack this morning. The report described his condition as “rather grave” and said he would not be able to attend the 25th anniversary celebration of the Hebrew University, of which he was a founder. The celebration will take place this week-end. (A later report from Rehovot said the President’s condition is “as usual.”)
Mayor Daniel Auster of Jerusalem was scheduled to visit the President at his residence in Rehovot and to officially hand over a document awarding him the freedom of Jerusalem. This document, written on special parchment, was to be delivered to Dr. Weizmann in accordance with a decision to this effect taken by the Jerusalem municipality.
