Premier Aly Sabri, of Egypt, announced late this afternoon that West Germany has issued an order to halt shipments of arms to Israel, according to a dispatch received here from Cairo. The agreements between West Germany and Egypt, under which Egypt has promised to withhold recognition of East Germany, was achieved after three conferences today between Premier Sabry and the Spanish mediator of the Bonn-Cairo dispute, the Marquis de Nerva.
The German Embassy in Washington had no comment on dispatches from Cairo reporting that West German arms shipments to Israel have been ordered stopped. The Cairo dispatches say that the cessation of arms shipments is a quid pro quo for Egyptian non-recognition of the East German regime. A German Embassy source here suggested that if the cessation is reported from Cairo, it probably is true.
