The State Department announced late today that three Jewish community leaders met with Secretary of State William P. Rogers for more than an hour at his office this afternoon in connection with the Soviet imposition of exit visa taxes on would-be emigrants.
A Department spokesman said that Richard Maass, chairman of the National Conference on Soviet Jewry, Max Fisher of Detroit, and Jacob Stein, chairman of the Conference of Presidents of Major American Jewish Organizations, met with Rogers, Assistant Secretary for European Affairs Walter Stoessel, and Deputy Assistant Secretary Richard Davies. “The meeting was useful,” the Department spokesman said, but did not elaborate.
