A resolution protesting the prison sentence given Nazi hunter Beate Klarsfeld in Cologne and denouncing Ernst Achenbach, a West German parliamentarian, for interfering in the prosecution of Nazi war criminals in Germany, was adopted today at the closing session here of the ninth plenary session of the Latin American Jewish Congress.
Delegates from Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Mexico, Paraguay. Peru. Uruguay and Venezuela paid tribute at the opening session to the late Argentine President Juan D. Peron. In other resolutions, solidarity was expressed with Israel and with the Jews in Russia and Syria. Dr. Paul Warszawski announced plans for a symposium, on cultural pluralism in Latin America. The delegates also were told of plans for a round table discussion on the consequences of the oil crisis in developing countries.
Minister Menachem Karmi of the Israel Embassy here reported on the Mideast situation and on the ties between world Jewry and Israel. Marc Turkow, general secretary of the Latin American Jewish Congress, stressed the unity of the Jewish people and recent developments in the diaspora. A public meeting was held to express tribute to Turkow on his 70th birthday. Turkow, replying to praise for his services to the Jewish cause, received a standing ovation.
The Latin American human rights prize for 1974 for $500 was awarded to Martin Luis Guzman, a Mexican Senator and former chairman of the Mexican-Israel Cultural Institute and chairman of the Committee for Free Books for Educational Purposes.
