The Latvian parliament today rejected a motion made by Latvian anti-Semites to destroy the cultural autonomy enjoyed by Latvian minorities under the Latvian constitution.The meassure was obviously aimed against the Jews.
Parliament also rejected a subsequent measure proposed by antiSemites to end government subsidies for secondary and artisans schools maintained by Latvian minorities.
Latvian anti-Semites ,stimulated by Hitlerite agents, have been exceedingly active in that country in recent months.New anti-Semitic papers,whose income is derived from mysterious sources,are busy attacking the Jews.At the same time the Latvian government,anxious to maintain trade with Germany,recently arrested the executian anti-Nazi boycott committee and confiscated all their books.
