Leaders of the dominant Christian Democrat and Socialist parties, which constitute the West German Government coalition, and have been receiving the support of German farmers and peasants, expressed shock today over a threat by the Farmers Union that the members of the farmers’ group would support the neo-Nazi National Democratic Party in retaliation for the Government’s decision to reduce agricultural subsidies due to budget difficulties.
Edmund Rehwinkel, who threatened last week to support the NDP, reiterated his stand on a network radio program last night. He said: “I would not regard it as a bad thing if a few hundred thousand farmers and their workers chose the NDP.”
