The American Jewish Committee revealed today that Josef Trischler, leader of the 28 deputies in the West German Bundestag opposing parliamentary ratification of the West German-Israeli reparations agreement, is “a wanted war criminal.” The Committee cited Yugoslav Government Reports, Numbers 7 to 33, which named Trischler as one of those charged with responsibility for killing 21,000 Serbs from Backa and Baranja, and several thousand Jews during the German occupation of Yugoslavia.
“The action of the 28 deputies of the West German Bundestag in trying to block ratification of the West German-Israeli restitution pact confirms the information we have had that a Nazi-Arab axis has been formed and is now actively operating,” the A.J.C. statement said. “The neo-Nazi elements have wooed and perhaps have won the political and financial support of the Arab League. Neither of these groups make any secret of their alliance. The arrival in Bonn of an Arab delegation October 20 was one part of the plan of the Nazi-Arab axis to attempt to influence the Bonn government to repudiate their agreements with Israel and with the Conference on Jewish Material Claims Against Germany.”
