The Rabbinical Council of America, the Rabbinical Assembly of America, the Central Conference of American, the Union of Orthodox Jewish Congregations of America, the United Synagogue of America, and the Union of American Hebrew Congregations today issued a joint proclamation designating this coming Saturday, April 18, as a “Jewish Welfare Board Sabbath” marking the 25th anniversary of the Board which was formed in April 1917 to minister to the spiritual and recreational needs of Jewish men serving in the nation’s armed forces.
Soldiers and sailors of Jewish faith will attend special “Jewish Welfare Board Sabbath” services in camps all over the country, while congregations of hundreds of synagogues are expected to held such special services in every community throughout the country. More than 50 services will be held on that date in the metropolitan area.
