Grave concern about the terrorism in Palestine and the importance of settling the question of partition as soon as possible is expressed in a report submitted by the League Secretariat to members of the Council and the Assembly.
“The League views the present situation in Palestine,” the report states, “with the greatest concern and hopes that a final decision on the future status of the territory will be made as soon as possible. All interests involved will suffer still further from continuance of the present uncertainty.” The report lays emphasis upon the fact that Great Britain, in its declaration to the Mandates Commission, reiterated her belief that partition of Palestine was the “best and most hopeful solution.”
The question of Palestine immigration, the Secretariat’s statement declares, will be examined at the present session since the British delegation is expected to explain why immigration has been reduced below the economic absorptive capacity of the country. “Such curtailment,” The report adds, “represents partial suspension of the obligations of the mandate.”
