A SUBCOMMITTEE ON REFUGEES HAS SUBMITTED TO THE SIXTH COMMISSION OF THE LEAGUE OF NATIONS ASSEMBLY A REPORT SUGGESTING THAT THE ASSEMBLY EMPOWER THE HIGH COMMISSION FOR GERMAN REFUGEES IN COOPERATION WITH THE SECRETARIAT GENERAL TO CALL AN INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE AT THE BEGINNING OF 1938 TO WORK OUT A CONVENTION FOR GERMAN REFUGEES, AND RECOMMENDING THAT THE GENERAL REFUGEE PROBLEM BE CONSIDERED BY THE ASSEMBLY IN 1938.
POINTING OUT THAT THE REFUGEE PROBLEM WILL NOT BE SETTLED BY THE END OF NEXT YEAR, THE REPORT URGES THE LEAGUE ON THAT ACCOUNT TO CONTINUE THE WORK ON BEHALF OF REFUGEES FOR A FURTHER STATED PERIOD. IT FURTHER RECOMMENDS THAT THE LEAGUE SECRETARY GENERAL, TOGETHER WITH THE HEAD OF THE NANSEN OFFICE AND THE HIGH COMMISSION DEVELOP A PLAN OF ACTIVITIES ON BEHALF OF REFUGEES AFTER DEC. 31, 1938, FOR SUBMISSION TO THE VARIOUS GOVERNMENTS NOT LATER THAN MAY 15, 1938.
