Lebanese President Camille Chamoun told a delegation of Sephardic Jews residing in Argentina that he considers the Jews of Lebanon good citizens of his country who deserve the same treatment given other citizens in accordance with genuine democratic traditions, it was learned here today.
It was revealed that during his recent visit to this country, the Lebanese President received a group of Sephardic Jews who came to this country from Lebanon and Syria. The group was headed by Ezra Teubal and Jacques Mizrachi, two leaders of the local Sephardic community, and included representatives of many institutions of Arab-speaking Jews in Argentina.
Mr. Teubal told President Chamoun that Arab-speaking Jews of Argentina follow with intense interest all aspects of political, cultural and business life in Lebanon and were pleased with the liberal and humanitarian treatment accorded the Jews of Lebanon. Mr. Teubal added that the Sephardic Jews hope that peace will soon be established between the Arab states, including Lebanon, and Israel. He stressed that Jews throughout the world have bonds of spiritual solidarity with Israel.
