Lebanese protesters threw stones at Israel during a demonstration at a former border crossing marking three years since the Israeli withdrawal from southern Lebanon. There were no reports of injuries or damage. Other rallies marking the withdrawal were expected to be held in other locations. Lebanon announced that it would not send its army to replace Hezbollah as the dominant force near the border. That pledge violates U.N. Security Council 425, which called both on Israel to withdraw and on the Lebanese government to maintain security at the border.
