Lebanese emissaries have approached the Provisional Government of Israel to find out the terms for a separate peace between the two nations, it was learned here today in authoritative quarters.
The chief reason for the move is believed to be the grave concern in Lebanon that further warfare on the northwestern front may lead to the total collapse of the Lebanese Army, which has already retreated before every Israeli thrust.
Reports received here from Beirut point to the possibility of the formation of a Christian state in Lebanon along the lines of the state of Israel, with Lebanon resigning from the Arab League. The latter move is considered highly probable if the Arab League states hold to their refusal to cease-fire and force a continuation of the war which will undoubtedly bring an invasion of Lebanon by the Jewish armed forces. Since the Lebanese invasion the Jews have crossed the border three times.
