Lebanon and Syria have reached an agreement on joint deployment of their military forces and have already moved in this direction along their borders with Israel, it was reported here today from Beirut. The dispatch said that this was one result of the continuing intense discussions among Arab states diplomats in Beirut.
The cleavage of opinion over what to do in the event the Security Council decides to hold a general Palestine debate, rather than specific discussions of the Arab-Israel cross-complaints, it was reported, has not been mended and the Jordan Government has agreed to inform Dr. Charles Malik, Lebanese delegate and only Arab spokesman in the Security Council, to use his own discretion on what course to follow if a general debate is voted.
From the Jordan capital, it was reported that Gen. Sir. Charles Keightley, Commander-in-Chief of the British land forces in the Middle East, has arrived in Amman with a staff of aides to discuss with the Jordan Premier what aid Britain would extend to Jordan in the event the Arab country should be attacked.
