The Pittsfield post of the American Legion has sent a protest to the national headquarters of the organization against the reported intention of Captain Georg Schmitt, recently arrived Stahlhelm emissary, to lay a wreath in behalf of the Stahlhelm at the tomb of the Unknown Soldier.
Official recognition of Schmitt, the post declared in its protest, “would be an affront to Jewish members of the post and contrary to the spirit of the magnificent preamble to the constitution of the American Legion.”
