Dedication of a monument erected by the Nazi government to the German war dead buried in the National Cemetery here has been indefinitely postponed by the German Consul in St. Louis on the heels of the local American Legion Post’s refusal to participate in any ceremony connected with the present Hitler government.
The Legion officials notified the German Consul that the local post was willing to honor their war dead, but “did not feel that the tribute should be connected with the present Hitler government.”
Official notice came from the Consul that the ceremony would be indefinitely postponed. The German Ambassador at Washington, Hans Luther, had planned to attend.
The American Legion had planned to invite Rabbi Abraham Feinstein, a Catholic priest and a Protestant minister to participate in the ceremony.
