The action of American Zionists in deciding to establish a colony in Palestine for the Jewish legionaires who fought with General Allenby in taking the Holy Land from the Turks, received the commendation of Colonel J. H. Patterson, British soldier who commanded the Jewish Legion.
The fund allotted by the Zionist Organization of America totalled $40,000. Morris Rothenberg, president of the Z. O. A., received the following message from the Colonel:
“On behalf of my Legionaires, may I express my heartfelt gratitude to you for your most generous action. It is a wonderful response to my appeal and will give a splendid start to the settlement scheme.” The settlement was made possible by a bequest to the Zionist Organization from Mrs. Rebecca Zundelowitz, of Wichita Falls, Texas.
