Governor Herbert H. Lehman today signed a bill converting the Jewish Teachers Seminary of New York into a full-fledged educational institution recognized by the State and enjoying the same privileges as any college in the country.
The bill gives the Jewish Teachers Seminary the right to bring over professors from abroad and also to register Jewish students from foreign countries.
Courses of study completed at the Jewish Teachers Seminary will, under the new bill, be recognized and credited in any university in the United States on the same basis as courses completed in any other American college.
The bill was sponsored by Assemblyman Alterman. It was passed several weeks ago.
The Jewish Teachers Seminary, which has been in existence for eighteen years, has gained a fine reputation throughout the country for promoting and disseminating Jewish culture and learning in the light of scientific study. The Seminary is a secular and nonpartisan school, training young men and women for the Jewish teaching profession and for research and community service. This training has enabled hundreds of young men and women to qualify as teachers in Jewish elementary and secondary schools all over the United States.
