Former Governor Herbert H. Lehman today called on Americans to supplement their contributions to Israel through the United Jewish Appeal by investing private capital in the new state’s industrial and other enterprises. Addressing a dinner meeting of directors of the Palestine Economic Corporation at the Waldorf-Astoria, Mr. Lehman, who recently completed an extensive tour of Israel, declared:
“This is a positive opportunity to contribute to the building of the new state that gives promise of security and reasonable return on invested funds. The P.E.C., through its subsidiaries, is seeking both to expand established enterprises and to start new zones where necessary.” Other speakers included Aubrey S. Eban, Israeli delegate to the United Nations, and Ira Guilden, chairman of the board of the Trade Bank and Trust Company of New York City.
