Funeral services were held here today for Leo J. Lyons, 79, well known Jewish leader and a member of the staff of “The Boston Globe” for the past fifty years. From 1905 until 1920 Mr. Lyons was also editor and one of the owners of the Boston Jewish Advocate.
Mr. Lyons was unique in the fact that he was the first journalist on any American newspaper to specialize in reporting Jewish news. He was president of Amos Ledge, B’nai B’rith and for thirty-five years was secretary of Temple Israel in Boston. On his seventieth birthday, in recognition of his efforts for civic betterment, a library on Judaica was founded by his friends, in his name, at the Boston University School of Religious Education.
