Funeral services were held yesterday at Temple Israel for Leonard Stein of Silver Spring, a longtime leader in B’nai B’rith International, who died here Monday of a heart attack at the age of 63.
Stein became acquainted with BBI when, as a teenager, he joined and later became a leader in the B’nai B’rith Youth Organization. He joined the adult group in 1948, working his way up to the BBI Board of Governors, the BBI top policy-making body.
He was a major force in creation of B’nai B’rith housing projects for low income senior citizens. He led in the development of Homescrest House I and House ll, for low-income elderly residents.
