Lessing J. Rosenwald, son of Julius Rosenwald, famous philanthropist, was elected president of the Federation of Jewish Charities here at a testimonial dinner tendered to Justin P. Allman, retiring president. Among the 700 people present was Julius Rosenwald, who in a brief address told of the pride he felt in the fact that his son had been chosen to head the Federation and expressed the belief that the younger element of the Jewish community must take a larger share of the Federation’s responsibilities upon their own shoulders.
The election of the younger Rosenwald, who is nearing 40, was characterized by Mr. Allman as a challenge to the younger people of Philadelphia’s Jewish community to become active in the Federation’s work. Other officers elected were Samuel S. Fels and Mrs. Arthur Loeb, vice-presidents, Isaac Gerstely, treasurer and Irving Cohen, secretary.
