Lessing Rosenwald, president of the American Council for Judaism, yesterday expressed opposition to plans for converting the American Jewish Conference into a permanent organization.
In a statement to the press, Rosenwald said that since the Jews of the United States are not a political entity and since their representation within the American Government is on a non-religious basis, “it is impossible for any single individual or agency to speak politically for them in a democratic way.” He added that “our political contacts with a future Palestinian government, to be determined by the United Nations, will be through the proper agencies of the Government of the United States, as our political contacts with the government of any other foreign state.”
