Lewis Strauss of New York, active in Jewish affairs before the outbreak of the war, and now on active duty in the United States Naval Reserve, has been promoted to the rank of commodore, it was reported here today.
Commodore Strauss’ present assignment is as special assistnat to the Secretary of the Navy and Navy member of the Army and Navy Munitions Board. He also is special assistant to the Vice Chief of Naval Operations.
He entered the Naval Reserve in 1926 as a lieutenant commander. He has received the Legion of Merit form the Navy and an Oak Leaf cluster in lieu of a second Legion of Merit from the Army.
