Students of Jewish religious schools in all parts of Northern California will compete in the annual oratorical contest set for May 13 in San Francisco under the auspices of the Board of Jewish Ministers of Northern California.
Plans for this event, which is anticipated with much interest by Northern California Jewish communities, were completed at this month’s meeting of the board. The contest will be staged at Temple Emanu-El here.
MEMBERSHIP DRIVE
plans for an intensive membership drive over the entire western slope will be considered at a conference of leaders of the United Synagogue of America called by Rabbi Elliot M. Burstein of this city, President of the Pacific regional branch of the organization
The conference will be held in May or June in either Portland or Seattle and will be attended by Rabbi Burstein with Northwest leaders of the United synagogue movement,
PUSH WELFARE DRIVE
With San Francisco’s Jewish National Welfare Fund campaign now past the half way mark, Director Berthold Guggenhime has issued an appeal to all workers to intensify their efforts to bring the campaign over the top and attain the $400,000 goal.
Dr. Alexander Meiklejohn, former president of Amherst College, was one of the Speakers at the last luncheon rally of workers.
SPEAKERS’ BUREAU FORMED
Under the leadership of Harry K. Wolff as chairman, a speakers’ bureau is being formed through the sponsorship of the General Committee of District Grand Lodge No. 4 of the B’nai B’rith to augment the work of the coast-wide anti-defamation bureau recently opened in this city.
