In connection with the observance of the 90th anniversary of the founding of B’nai B’rith, a drive has been launched by the local Ezckiel Lodge for 1,500 new members.
Mayor Ellenstein has consented to act as honorary chairman and Judge Joseph Siegler of the Essex County Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court, is the active chairman. Vice-chairmen are Past District President William M. Untermann, Julius E. Flink and Charles Manshel. The treasurer is Harry A. Braelow, and secretary, Emil Frankel. The drive is being directed by Joseph Herbach, of Philadelphia, secretary of District Grand Lodge No. 3. David Kraemer, past president of Ezekiel, is associate director.
More than a score of well-known business and professional men of the community are heading various sub-committees in the drive procedure. The drive received official impetus Thursday night when Judge Leopold Glass of Philadelphia, president of the district grand lodge, in an address urged the local Jewish community to aid the campaign as an incentive to an organized and unified communal life.
Another drive now current here is the annual activities enrollment campaign of the Y.M.-Y.W.H.A. A quota of 20,000 “points” is being sought, each “point” being the equivalent of one dollar. Nearly 200 volunteers are canvassing the city in an effort to re-enroll as many persons as possible in the educational, social and physical departments of the institution.
